About Us

A love of travel coupled with a passion for social justice and a desire to make a positive contribution to the world, led Lindsay Ratcliffe to Vietnam in 1991. She spent the next 16 years living and working as a volunteer development worker with Australian Volunteers International and then Assistant Country Director with CARE International in Vietnam, forming a close affinity with the country and its people. Lindsay’s contribution to community development in Vietnam was formally recognised by the Vietnamese Government and she was the recipient of three awards including the Medal of Peace and Friendship in 2006.

Working in community development and poverty reduction Lindsay was constantly amazed by the fierce determination, courage and resilience of the women of Vietnam. Upon returning to Australia in 2006 Lindsay was determined to find a way to continue to support and contribute to the wellbeing and empowerment of women from under-privileged backgrounds.

A simple basket purchased in 1999 from a roadside stall in Ho Chi Minh City to carry beach and swimming gear for her 4 children was the catalyst for the establishment of Wishious. Lindsay’s family well and truly put this basket to the test. There is nothing it couldn’t carry and over 20 years later is still going strong. This basket proved itself to be super strong, lightweight, washable and versatile. Product research revealed a whole lot of other compelling positives including the fact that they are handwoven from recycled plastic by a fabulous group of hard working women in Ho Chi Minh City. What is not to love?
